United States Navy WWII Mark V brass and copper dive helmet. Oval plaque to front reads "US Navy Diving Helmet Mark V, Morse Diving Equipment Co Inc, Boston Mass, No. 485 Date: 8 – 29 – 41". Approximately 19 1/2" H x 12 1/2" w x 16 1/2" D (at deepest point). Note: The Mark V was used by the US Navy from 1916 till 1984. Provenance: Oral history from the consignor reports that the helmet belonged to a WWII salvage expert. The dent was caused by falling metal debris that hit him while he was working in the water. It saved his life so he always refused to have the dent repaired. Condition: Overall good condition with dent to the upper back side of helmet. Appears to retain all original hardware.
