Autograph: King Edward VIII (1894-1972, crowned and abdicated 1936) TLS dated Dec. 16, 1937 from the Hotel Meurice, Paris, to Newbold Noyes, Associate Editor of the Washington Star, regarding the publicity around his decision to abandon the throne to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson. Single page, on blue letterhead. 7 1/2" x 8 1/2".
PROVENANCE: By descent in the family of Lelia Sinclair (Gordon) Dickey Noyes Lucas, the wife of Newbold Noyes and second cousin of Wallis Simpson (both descending from Henry Montague, 1795-1855). Mrs. Lucas served as a bridesmaid at Wallis Simpson's first wedding to U.S. Navy officer Win Spencer.
CONDITION: The letter is in very good condition with a couple of light spots of discoloration and minor creases. It retains the original envelope, worn with some edge losses.
