Tennessee cherry desk and bookcase of unusual form, the bookcase with ogee cornice, central arched open cupboard and two side paneled doors over paneled half doors, the base having a slant-top front with fitted interior, including eight pigeonholes above two rows of drawers, central prospect door, hidden shallow drawer over document door, and single long drawer over tall tapered square legs. Yellow pine and poplar secondary woods. 91 1/4" H x 43 1/2" W x 19 1/2" D. Tennessee or Kentucky, 1st quarter, 19th century. Provenance: East Tennessee collection, formerly of the Richard Doughty Estate, Greeneville, TN. CONDITION: Older refinish with expected general wear and abrasions. One shelf absent in open section, restoration/repair to cornice molding, break to proper right door, one loper replaced, prospect door possibly replaced, some patches to front leg, long drawer rebuilt with boards added beneath. Pulls absent to interior desk drawers.
