Enrico Caruso (Italian, 1873-1921) ink on paper autographed caricature depicting a self-portrait of the operatic tenor. Signed and dated "Enrico Caruso/ 11. 4. 1917" below. Sight: 7 1/2" H x 6" W. Framed: 11 1/4" H x 9 1/2" W. Note: According to the information affixed en verso, the sketch was done by opera singer Enrio Coruso in the Knickerbocker Hotel for the consignor's Grandmother, who had met the singer after the opera that evening. She was introduced to him by the manager of the Metropolitan Opera Company. This sketch was rendered on the hotel's stationery. Housed and matted in a parcel-gilt frame under glass.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edward Laudermilk, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Creasing along fold lines and toning. Framed with slight paint loss and areas of restoration. Not examined outside of frame.
