Irish Chippendale ebonized tall case clock, stained oak, dial marked J. Aiker Wigan for John Aiker (working 1797-1832 in Wigan, Lancashire, England). Bonnet case with broken arch pediment with carved rosettes, carved lion mask and acanthus leaf frieze over square glass door to clock face. Metal face painted with Roman numerals, ship's dial and gilt and polychrome floral sprays at spandrels. Face flanked by replaced hood columns. Waist section with scrolled arched cabinet door flanked by reeded quarter columns, later base section with ogee molding at top and molded base. 95" H x 19 1/2" W x 10" D. mostly Dublin, circa 1775. Private Middle Tennessee collection. CONDITION: Base and hood columns 20th century replacements. Scattered small losses to molding. Repairs to right arched pediment and center finial base. Seat board replaced. Retains pendulum.
