Rare University of Tennessee collegiate sports lithograph or poster published by Close, Graham and Scully circa 1910, depicting a young woman in shirt labeled "UT" holding a basketball. Titled lower center, "Our Captain". Artist's name, Sadie Wendell Mitchell, in plate; publisher name and copyright date printed lower left. Plain wood molded frame. 22" x 14" sight, 23-1/2" x 15-1/2" framed. Note: The Lady Vols basketball program began in 1902. Close, Graham & Scully were among the first companies to produce chromolithographs focusing on American college sports, commissioning work from a variety of illustrators. The artist of this poster, Sadie Wendell Mitchell, also produced a separate line of chromolithographs featuring college women in scholarly pursuits. Condition: Foxing affecting only the lower half of sheet, overall toning. Staining and abrasions to frame.
