Three (3) items relating to the Lick Observatory, Mount Hamilton, CA. One (1) book/brochure HOW WE CLIMB TO THE STARS AND THE LICK OBSERVATORY, by George Wharton James, San Francisco, The Bancroft Company, 1887. Scarce early work of James, a 39 page print-on-demand stapled softcover. Poetic look at the origins of how Mount Hamilton was chosen as the stargazing site for the Lick Observatory. Two (2) postcards, views of the Lick Observatory atop Mount Hamilton, one showing a snow covered scene, also with handwritten note on front "This looks very natural Feb 19, 1906". Note: George Wharton James (1858-1923) was an ordained Methodist minister who emigrated from England to the US and became a lecturer, photographer, journalist and editor.
