Flora Danica Porcelain plate, gold trimmed reticulated border encircling a handpainted flower on white ground, labeled on back "Campanula Trachelium. L. and marked Royal Copenhagen 20/3553 (mark used 1889-1922). Condition: old staplerepair. 9-1/2" diameter. Private Nashville, TN collection. Note: commissioned in 1790, reputedly as a gift to Empress Catherine of Russia, Flora Danica is the oldest porcelain pattern still in production. It depicts more than 700 wild plantsfrom the extensive Danish botanical survey of the same name, begun in 1761.
