1861 50C CSA Scott restrike half dollar white metal coin, PCGS MS62. Obverse: Confederate States of America device. Reverse: C.S.A. New Orleans Confederate State device. (Coin Index PCGS 340403). Note: In the post Civil War period J.W. Scott (a Northerner) saw a demand for Civil War Confederate States historical coins and purchased the CSA dies and produced white metal tokens such as this one being offered at auction. With the success of minting this token Scott and his peers proceeded to purchased 500 1861 half dollars and with the CSA die proceeded to restrike 500 seated liberty silver coins. Over 150 years later this rare and collectable coin still remains sought after among avid coin collectors.
PROVENANCE: By descent from the estate of Stanley Horn, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Graded by PCGS as MS62
