Painted plaster bust, possibly after Shobal Vail Clevenger (1812-1843), depicting an unidentified older, balding gentleman, atop a circular integral base. The sculpture bears a strong resemblance to the plaster bust of U.S. Senator Jeremiah Mason currently in the collection of the Boston Athanaeum. Unsigned. 31"H x 22"W x 13'D. 20th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Tennessee collection; acquired from a Nashville estate about four years ago.
CONDITION: Scattered tiny paint chips, including to nose; scattered light spots and staining including a light streak to neck, a few tiny chips to base.
