Scarce painted ceramic bust of President Abraham Lincoln, advertising premium for the Lincoln Proprietary Company's "Lincoln Tea." The bust is modeled after a circa 1860 bust of Lincoln acquired for the U.S. Senate chamber and depicts him late in life with beard, suit, and tie; "Lincoln Tea" is incised across the base. 18" H. Note: This bust is referenced in a 1901 Pharmaceutical Era notice by the Lincoln Proprietary Co. that states the busts were available free of charge to any retail druggist who agreed to order and sell a certain amount of Lincoln Tea products. Very few were made, or have survived.
PROVENANCE: Private Southern Collection.
CONDITION: Repaired break to Lincoln's nose, with associated hairlines to upper lip. Two minute chips to the right eyebrow and widow's peak hairline, largest measuring 1/2" x 3/8". Wear to painted finish. Scattered scuffs, scratches and abrasions. A few green paint splatters.
