American coin silver repousse footed Monteith bowl with flared, crenulated rim, the bowl sides with repousse landscape design featuring architectural elements such as towers and cottages, bridges and gates, surrounded by allover floral repousse decoration and central monogrammed cartouche (initials HKT?). Side of base marked "C. B. & Co.", likely for retailer Canfield Brothers & Co., working Baltimore, Maryland, 1850-1881, with additional leaf or flower mark and a partially legible numerical mark – possibly 10.15, the mark used by Samuel Kirk and several other Baltimore silversmiths to indicate coin silver. 9 1/4" H x 11 3/4" dia. 45.315 troy ounces. Provenance: Baltimore estates of Virginia Howard Miller (c. 1880-1946) and Hugh Purviance King (1873-1966) passed down to present Living Estate of Virginia Johnston, Chattanooga, TN. CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Monogrammed. Some floral foam residue to interior center of bowl.
