Jerry Malzahn (Texas/Arkansas, 1946-2019) oil on canvas landscape painting titled "Mount McKinley" depicting the snow-peaked mountain (now Mt. Denali) in the distance with a dense forest leading to still body of water in the midground and a clearing of red-flowered bushes surrounded by trees in the foreground. Signed in red "Malzahn" lower left. Housed in a giltwood frame with foliate and ribbon molding and placard with artist and title affixed to lower sight edge. Sight: 21 1/2" H x 30 1/2" W. Framed: 29 3/4" H x 38 3/4" W. Note: A copy of the original 2005 receipt is available to the winning bidder. Biography: Born in Stuttgart, Arkansas, Jerry Malzahn enlisted in the U.S. Navy following his graduation from high school and served as a Storekeeper Second Class during the Vietnam War before his Honorable Discharge. Malzahn then attended the University of North Texas, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management which he used to found the Malzahn Landscape Company, settling in Coppell, Texas with his wife. At the age of 48, he began to devote himself to landscape painting, specializing in Texas and Colorado landscapes. Malzhan was commissioned to create the Texas Christmas ornament for the White House Christmas Tree, and his work is represented in the U.S. Naval Academy Museum in Annapolis.
