Tiensch Louisville KY transit level compass. dial engraved with central fleur-de-lis at North, signed in the Southern quadrant, "A. Tiensch Louisville, KY", two functioning leveling vials, removable cap. Brass case stamped, "A. C. Schuman Louisville" twice adjacent to each leveling vial. 15 3/8"L x 6 1/8". Circa 1855. Adolph Tiensch was born in 1820 in Germany and immigrated to America, setting up shop in Ohio first. He later moved to Louisville, Kentucky in the 1850s, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee in 1860. He died in 1897 in Memphis. Provenance – Lexington, Kentucky area collection. Condition: Not tested for functionality CONDITION: Not tested for functionality
