"A Ground Plan and Section of Weyer's Cave Augusta CO. VA.", ca. 1835. Designed and drawn by Robert L. Cooke, Staunton, VA, lithograph by Childs & Lehman, Lith.rs, Philadelphia. Includes an overhead plan of the cave, each room labeled by letters explained by map legend, sections of the hill on which the cave is situated, a scale, a Compass rose diagram, and a Remarks and Explanations section about the history, location and a description of how the plan was drawn. Map surrounded by black line border. Illegible signature in black ink top right corner. Laid down on linen and restored with linen backing. Sight – 23 3/4" H x 30 W. Framed – 28 3/8" H x 34 1/2" W. Condition: Originally torn across middle, tear lower center, tears across right corner, upper right quadrant, upper left quadrant, holes left center and fold creases. Water damage, top left and right side. Foxing spots scattered on surface and bottom left of map. All secured by linen backing, edges of linen fraying.
