Oil on canvas cubist portrait depicting a seated woman attired in a white slip against an abstract background. The painting is rendered in fragmented blocks of color that give the painting a multidimensional perspective. Signed "Marcell, 37" lower left, possibly Marcell W Jensen (1911-1985). Housed in a contemporary giltwood frame. Sight: 38 7/8" H x 34 1/4" W. Framed: 42 1/2" H x 39" W.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Thomas Bechtel, Memphis, TN.
CONDITION: Overall heavy craquelure with some buckling to canvas and one area of paint loss, approximately 1". Painting is loose in frame. Some gilt loss and wear to frame.
