Late 19th century desk, strongly grained walnut or possibly chestnut with poplar secondary wood. Rectangular molded top over a central long drawer, flanked on each side by a bank of four graduated drawers, all hand dovetailed with ribbon molded edges, original brass bail handles and raised round wood escutcheons. Ogee bracket feet. 33"H x 48"W x 22"D. Provenance: originally belonged to Dr. Sam Hodge,a Knoxville gynecologist who practiced on Church Street. Circa 1870. Condition: Shrinkage cracks to sides, scattered abrasions, scattered small stains to top. Back is a later plywood replacement.
