Blaeu, Johannes, REGNO DI NAPOLI, c. 1640 map from Atlas Novus depicting the Kingdom of Naples in Southern Italy when it was part of the Spanish dominions of the Hapsburg Empire in Europe (as indicated by the Spanish Arms, upper right). The hand-colored map features panels of provincial coats of arms at each side with the arms of Naples, supported by two mermaids, lower right, and depicts ships (including two engaged in a battle) in the surrounding waters. Double-sided glass shows the Latin text en verso. Matted and framed under glass (not plexiglass) in a woodgrain frame with gilt outer edge. Sight: 15"H x 19"W. Frame: 23"h x 26 3/4"W.
CONDITION: Map in overall very good condition, professionally cleaned, with some faint staining upper left quadrant and a couple of minor creases. Frame has several molding losses en verso and glass does not currently fit securely in frame, needs framing repair. Not examined out of frame.
