Paul Edelstein (Tennessee, b.1959), "Repeating Traces," oil on canvas abstract painting depicting figures, plant life, and other indiscernible subject matter simplified into geometric forms. Rendered in bright colors with loose brushstrokes and some areas of heavy impasto. Signed "Edelstein" lower left and titled "Repeating Traces" in yellow paint across canvas en verso. Unframed. Sight: 24" H x 15 7/8" W. Biography: Paul Edelstein was originally born in Kentucky in 1959 but was raised in Memphis, Tennessee, where he began painting at an early age. He received his B.A. in Painting and Russian from the University of Memphis, and studied under Dorothy Sturm and Marjorie Liebman. His work is in public and private collections including The Meridian Museum of Art, Meridian, Mississippi; The Museum of Art, Jackson, Mississippi, and the West Tennessee Regional Arts Center in Humboldt, Tennessee. His paintings have appeared in the 1993 movie The Firm, and the 2003 movie 21 Grams. He also illustrated a children's book, Beany the Star. (Source: artist's website).
