Lot of 2 rare books. 1ST ITEM: "The Book of Cats, A Chit Chat Chronicle" by Charles H. Ross, first edition, Griffith and Farran, 1868. Original blue pictorial cloth gilt, pp. viii, 296, with a pictorial title and 20 full plate illustrations by the author. Pen inscription inside: To Eliza Mitchell from Lillie, Dec. 25 '75 (1875). Minor wear at corners and edges of spine, overall very fine condition. 7 1/8" x 5 1/8". 2ND ITEM: The Comedy of A Midsummer Night's Dream / written byWilliam Shakespeare (sic); and arranged for representation at Daly's Theatre, by Augustin Daly ; produced there for the first time, January 31, 1888." Privately printed for Mr. Daly. Copyright Augustin Daly, 1888. 75 pp, includes 5 engravedplates with scenes from the play as well as cast lists of the first performance in America, Nov. 9, 1826, Park Theatre and of Daly's Theatre, January 31, 1888. Also a frontspiece photogravure plate of Miss Ada Rehan as Helena. Note: Daly iscredited with launching the careers of some of the best actors on the American stage.
