Western Union Model 35-A self-winding ticker tape machine, serial #8703, with brass frame marked near the serial number MFD BY T A EDISON. INC., telegraph mechanism, and tape feed with escapement mechanism, over an electromagnet. All housed in a cast iron base with Western Union label stenciled: Quotations Furnished by The Western Union Telegraph Co. – Apply to Local Manager. Retains the original glass dome. Machine measures: 10 3/4 in. H x 5 3/4 in. W. Overall: 13 3/4 in. H x 7 1/4 in. W.
PROVENANCE: The Collection of Deborah and Kent Vauclain Bissell, Sr., by descent from his great-uncle, William Cullen Morris (1874-1975) of New York. Morris was a Vice President of Con Edison and engineer instrumental in the construction of the Astoria Tunnel.
CONDITION: Not tested for functionality. Light wear to the paint and lettering of the cast iron base. All parts appear to be present.
