Three (3) Arthur Sheppard (California, 1875-1954) humorous genre scenes, including framed watercolor and drawings. 1st item: Watercolor and ink on paper painting depicting a housekeeper brandishing a broom gesturing his dismay at a rowdy group of men armed with riding crops engaged in various mischievous activities such as standing on the table, riding the back of another man, riling up the animals, and wrestling as they depart through the lodge's open door. Bordered by concentric ink lines. Signed "A. Sheppard" lower right. Housed under glass in a wooden frame. Sight: 13 1/2" H x 18 1/4" W. Frame: 20 1/4" H x 26 1/4" W. 2nd-3rd item: Two (2) ink on paper drawings, including one (1) depicting a cockfight surrounded by crowded spectators engaged in various activities such as betting, attending to roosters, drinking, and shouting with a dark archway, unrailed stairs, and the support beams of an upper floor in the background; and one (1) depicting a carriage stranded in low flood waters during a rainstorm with numerous male figures attempting to aid women and animals to traverse the marshy landscape. Both signed "Arthur Sheppard" lower right and copyrighted lower left. Both with additional pencil numbering inscriptions along margin. Sights ranging in size from 22" H x 29 5/8" W to 26 3/8" H x 35 1/2" W. Sheets ranging in size from 22" H x 30" W to 28" H x 36" W.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall good condition with warping and scattered minor creasing to paper; scattered minute losses, largest measuring 1/8" x 1/8". 2nd-3rd items: Overall good condition with scattered creasing and warping to paper; scattered slight tearing and some minor losses to edges. Cockfight drawing with area of dampstaining across left edge; carriage drawing with minor scattered areas of discoloration.
