Two Marc Chagall (French/Russian, 1887-1985) prints, including one (1) color lithograph and one (1) etching.1st item: A Chagall color lithograph entitled "The Ceiling of the Paris Opera." Chagall produced the ceiling paintings for Parisâs Opera Garnier, unveiled in 1964, and this original lithograph was included as the frontispiece of the 1966 portfolio created to celebrate the artist's realization of the project. The image depicts one section of the ceiling and includes numerous dancing figures outlined in black and colored with, in vibrant blue, green, and peach hues. Floated and housed in a wood frame with gilt. Sheet: 12 3/4" H x 9 1/2" W. Frame: 22" H x 18 1/4" W. Provenance includes Ferdinand Roten Galleries, Baltimore, MD, with retained gallery tag. Ref. Mourlot 434. 2nd item: A Chagall signed etching entitled "The Dove of the Ark" from his series of etchings for The Bible. The scene depicts the moment in Genesis, VIII, 6-9 when Noah releases the dove through the window of the ark. Noah and the dove are accompanied by the Virgin Mary and Christ Child, along with a rooster and goat–two of the artist's signature motifs. Signed in the plate, lower right. Housed in a wooden frame with gilt vegetal motif. From an edition of 295 black and white impressions and after a 1931 painting by Chagall. From his original period of work on this series, 1931-1939. CONDITION: 1st item: Condition is very good with rich blacks and vibrant colors. Miniscule creasing to upper left corner. 2nd item: Conditions is good, with some unobtrusive buckling and toning around mat window. Not examined outside of frames.
