Group of Memphis Tennessee plat books, formerly owned by Col. Robert Bogardus Snowden (1836-1909), prominent landowner and businessman. 7 books total, including 6 books labeled for Wards 1-7, 10, and 23 containing blueprints of city plats, circa 1900, and 1 book titled simply "Plats" with black printed and/or hand drawn plats, possibly pre-dating the other books. Plats shown include the Snowden-Binkley subdivision and other various land holdings; there are several printed and pencil notations as to owners and land transfers. All with cloth covers, approximately 15" x 9". Very rare glimpse of the streets of Memphis as they appeared near the turn of the century, owned by one of the city's most important families. Note: several other items that descended in the Snowden family, used at their historic home Annesdale, are also for sale in this auction.
CONDITION: Considerable wear and staining to covers. Cover of unnumbered plat book has become detached and the rear cover is missing, along with several of the last pages.
