1st item: Hand sewn Crazy Quilt topper, silk and velvet squares embroidered with flowers, cattails, fans, stars, and initials including OBG (likely Otto Burkhardt Giers), G, ILD, FD etc. At the center is a small stuffed doll figure. Unbacked, possibly unfinished. 53 1/2" x 54". Circa 1880. 2nd item: Unusual four-color jacquard coverlet, red, blue, green and beige; decorated with center star surrounded by flowers and leaves, main field with triangles, floral border with buildings or churches woven into the center of each border. Each corner block has a flower centered by what appears to be the letter C. 74" x 77". Provenance: the estate of Giers descendant Sarah Hunter Hicks Green, formerly of Historic Devon Farm, Nashville, Tennessee. CONDITION: 1st item: squares are in very good condition, unbacked. Left corner possibly cut, or left unfinished. 2nd item: fair condition with fading to one side, end fraying and losses/tears, affecting building images, a few dark stains 1" or less. Considerable wear along fold areas, especially at center star.
