Shirley Thomson Smith (American, b. 1929) patinated bronze sculpture depicting a woman wearing a head covering with bow, seated and holding her knees, with her head slightly turned. Signed with copyright date of 1992 and numbered "6/20". Mounted on a molded figured wood base. Bronze – 19 1/2" H x 13" W x 8" D. Overall dimensions including base – 21 1/2" H x 16" W x 9 1/2" D. Weight: 44.10 lbs. Biography: Shirley Thomson Smith is known for her portrayals of Native American, Mexican, and African women. In 1985, she was accepted as a member of the National Academy of Western Art (N.A.W.A.), only the fourth woman to have been admitted. Provenance: Private Nashville, TN collection. CONDITION: Excellent condition.
