Engraved certificate by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson Co., of New York featuring a vignette of the United States Capitol building at top; a standing George Washington with sword; a uniformed sailor with American Flag; Portraits of Secretary of the Navy John Dobbin and President Franklin Pierce. Signed by Commissioner of Pensions J(osiah) Minot and D(aniel) T. Jenks. Uncancelled. Behind glass in wooden frame with taupe mat. Sight: 8 1/2 in. H x 11 in. W.; Framed: 12 3/4 in. H x 15 in. W. Note: Congress passed legislation on March 3, 1855 providing a grant for 160 acres to all veterans who served at least 14 days in the American Revolution, or to their widows or minor children.
CONDITION: Even toning. Repaired vertical fold split. Chipping to extremities, largest is 3/4 in. L along upper edge along fold. Not examined out of frame.
