Hebert, engraved by Samuel John Neele, published by Thomas Dobson & son, Philadelphia, 1818. From the American edition of "Pinkerton's Modern Atlas" by John Pinkerton. Copper plate engraving with hand coloring of the northern part of the area of North America under the dominion of Spain, including Texas and the areas encompassing the Louisiana territory before the Spanish cession of 1819. Depicts mountain ranges, cities and towns including New Orleans, rivers and other bodies of water, mines, farms, station of muleteers, garrisons or military posts, tribes, and other areas of interest. Relief shown by hachures. Title, top left, scale of miles, lower right, explanation, lower left. "Longitude West from Greenwich", centered below map. Map surrounded by scale notations and triple line border. Image – 20 1/8" H x 27 3/4" W. Sheet – 22" H x 30 3/4" W. Provenance: Private Knoxville, TN collection. CONDITION: Overall good condition. Tears, largest 6", top and bottom of center crease and edges of map. Two tears repaired with scotch tape, largest 2 1/4", bottom of center crease and center of right edge of map. Toning, foxing spots, areas of staining, largest 1", surrounding edges of map and perimeter of lower quadrant of image.
