Pair of Queen Anne walnut side chairs with yoke shaped top rail, embellished by a relief carved leaf design, over a central vasiform splat set into shoe on rear rail. Cabriole front legs with carved scrolls at knees and block turned back legs, joined by side and back stretchers with block turnings and a recessed central serpentine stretcher. 37"H. Probably Continental, early 18th century. Provenance: the estate of Margaret Wemyss Connor, Nashville, Tennessee. Condition: Insect damage to stiles, scattered wear, breaks and repairs. One chair has a repair to its crest rail and part of its right foot replaced. Each seat with later and differing upholstery and a later finish with some fading.
