Schoenhut Teddy Roosevelt "The Big Game Hunter" character doll from the "Teddy Adventures in Africa" series together with his horse. Doll is attired in its original safari costume with painted and carved wooden head, hat, arms and shoes. Horse is painted wood with jointed legs and glass eyes and retains some leather harness to the head, most of the leather saddle, and the twine tail. Doll measures 9" H. Horse measures 8" H x 10" L. Circa 1910. Note: Red prize ribbon attached for Second Place in the Dollology Club, Washington, D. C. Provenance: Estate of Frances R. Van Winkle, Knoxville, TN, daughter of Elsie Schmidt Jachowski, collector and past president of Dollogy Club of Washington, DC. Condition: One arm painted, the other unpainted. Both appear to be the expected age and carving quality. Break to rim of hat. Doll missing leather belt and gun. Horse with losses to leather harness, ears and saddle. Overall general paint wear/loss to both.
