Fraternal Ceremonial Hatchet with hammered silver blade, figured and shaped wood handle with silver wire wraps, and inlaid at junction of handle and blade with a 1926 $2.50 gold coin. Silver blade marked .925 and XRF tests as sterling silver. Note: by oral history, this hatchet was associated with the "Improved Order of the Red Men," a fraternal organization established in North America in 1834 which stemmed from the Sons of Liberty fraternity. The Sons of Liberty are most famous for dressing as their impression of Mohawk men and dumping tea into the Boston Harbor in 1773 (the "Boston Tea Party"). 17"H x 8 1/2"W.
