Allen County, Kentucky miniature chest of drawers, poplar and pine. Comprised of an overhanging molded top above three drawers, paneled sides and rounded stiles terminating in straight feet. Inscribed on the underside of the middle drawer, "Made by J. L. Hickman (Jesse Lee Hickman) for his wife KATE in THE YEAR 1874 AT SCOTTSVILLE KY". Pegged and nailed construction throughout. 13 5/8" H x 11 1/2" W x 7 1/4" D. Note: Jesse Lee Hickman (1851- 1944) was born in Allen, Kentucky to John Hickman and Mary Warden. He had 21 children with his first wife Emily Cathering Alexander (Katie) for whom this chest was made. He subsequently had six children with Elmada B. Hickman.
PROVENANCE: Private Tennessee Collection.
CONDITION: Retains the original surface, with overall expected use wear and minor abrasions, minor losses to right underside of top and indentions to drawer openings on the left sides of the lower two drawers.
