1st item: Mildred Neese (American/Tennessee, d. 1995) abstract collage and oil painting on board entitled "Letters Dieu en Blue." Signed and dated "M. Neese '68," lower right. Titled on tape en verso. Also en verso is illegible text in pencil and, to back of frame, pen inscriptions including "Neese." Housed in a wooden frame with distressed white paint. Board: 10" W x 13 3/4" H. Frame: 13 1/2" W x 18 1/2" H. Note: Nashville-born Mildred Neese (later Mildred Neese Graf) studied Art at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC. She exhibited at the Parthenon in Nashville and at the Hunter Gallery of Art (now the Hunter Museum) in Chattanooga during the 1960s. (Source: MTSU Sidelines, March 1, 1961) 2nd item: Jeanne Miller abstracted landscape painting on paper entitled "Moon Moth." A red-and-black moon appears in the upper left alongside moth-like forms and a tree that stands at right. Signed in the painting, lower right, and signed and titled on matboard. Housed and floated in a rustic white and gilt wooden frame with tan matboard. Sheet: 13" W x 6 1/2" H. Frame: 17 1/8" W x 12 1/4" H.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Gerry Sadow, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: 1st item: Excellent condition. 2nd item: Painting is in excellent condition. Mat has some foxing or accretions throughout. Not examined outside of frames.
