Mauser-built P38 Byf/44 pistol with original issued holster; matching serial #7235 on frame, slide, front block, and holster; "P38" and "byf 44" (Mauser 1944) on the left side, "Eagle over N" test fire mark and military "WaA135" acceptance marks. The same mark is also found blind-stamped on the right side of slide, but also with an "Eagle over Swastika L" mark indicating Police Issue. Fitted with plastic grip panels, unmarked, which is consistent with Mauser production during this period. Smooth double action, clean, shiny bore, barrel intentionally left un-smoothed w/ machining marks, 70% original finish remaining, with two magazines; original issued holster with matching serial.
Historical note: Germany required Mauser to use the code "byf" instead of "Mauser" on their weapons to hopefully hide the factory from Allied bombing raids. NOTE: Most firearms made after 1898 require passing an FFL background check prior to transfer. The date of production for this gun makes it subject to FFL rules. Please be prepared with proper identification and information. If you do not reside in Tennessee, an FFL dealer in your state is required to complete the transfer.
PROVENANCE: A Nashville, Tennessee Estate.
CONDITION: 1 magazine with non matching serial #, spare with no #; right side of slide with rubbed finish.
