Oil on canvas bust portrait of Marine P.G. Navarro attributed to Edward Hurst (Tennessee/New York/England, 1912-1972). P.G. Navarro of the 2nd Marine Division was deployed in the Pacific during WWII and co-authored a book on his experiences: IN THE PACIFIC FROM POINTS UNKNOWN: ONE MARINE'S JOURNEY IN WWII WITH ART, PHOTOS AND LETTERS. The painting depicts a light haired and blue eyed soldier in unform facing right with left shoulder and 2nd Marine division patch visible and gazing directly at the viewer. Signed upper right in red P.G.NAVARRO. Marker inscription en verso reads PAINTED BY EDWARD HURST IN 1941/KNOXVILLE, TN LAY FAMILY. House in a molded gilt wood frame. Sight:18 1/4 " H x 15 1/2" W. Framed: 22 1/4" H x19 3/4 " W.
PROVENANCE: A Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Painting overall very good condition. Frame with minor abrasion on top stretcher.
