Eric Sloan (New York/Connecticut, 1905-1985) pastel and ink grisaille drawing on wove paper that depicts an F4U Corsair fighter in a dive through cloudy skies. Signed in ink, lower center, with faint (smudged or partially erased) title, “Corsair,” and two additional signatures to lower left and right. With Lyzon Gallery, Nashville, sticker affixed to backing. Floated under acrylic in a silvered wood frame with textile mat and black mount. Sheet: 16 3/4 in. H x 13 1/2 in. W. Framed: 32 13/16 in. H x 27 1/4 in. W.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Myron King, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: With accretions partially covered with grey pigment throughout upper and center left, outside of and neatly abutting plane, likely inherent. Tape residue along upper edge and to lower left and right edges. Minor loss to upper left corner. Not examined out of frame. With grime or dust to mat.
