Sheraton sugar chest, desk form, Kentucky or Southern Ohio, cherry primary, poplar secondary. Hinged slant front having breadboard ends and inlaid oval reserve of figured walnut, over four false drawers with barber pole inlaid edges, small round brass knobs and diamond shaped inlaid escutcheons. Stiles with lopers, extending into tapered turned feet. Plain sides and back. Interior fitted with three cockbeaded dovetailed drawers with round brass pulls and sliding door exposing a storage well beneath. Restorations. 24" H x 27 1/2" W x 18 5/8" D.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Raymond White, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Modification and alterations possible with lack of age to false "drawer fronts" and unusual lopers design and location in the stiles. Older refinishing. Circular stain and sun fading to top, minor scattered wood shrinkage. Repair or restoration to rear section of top. Key not present. Molding along top edge of door replaced. Scattered surface scratches. Scattered small losses to inlay.
