Joseph Scott 1795 colored map titled THE SOUTHWEST TERRITORY, originally published as part of a larger group of 18 small maps in the book "The United States Gazetteer: Containing an Authentic Description of the Several States, their Situation, Extent, Boundaries, and their Respective Counties", Philadelphia: F. and R. Bailey, 1795. This map shows the Mero district, Nashville, Knoxville, Clarksville, and other Tennessee locations such as Ross's Iron Works and the South Boundary Military Reservation; Kentucky to the North and Georgia to the South. The area west of the Mississippi River (including what would later be called Memphis) is shown only as Louisiana. Housed in a gilt and burlwood frame. Image: 6" x 7 1/4", Sight: 6 1/4" x 7 1/2". Framed: 12 1/2" H x 13 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Ann H. Wells, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Some light overall toning, pencil inscriptions, and one vertical fold. Not examined out of the frame.
