Tonalist pastoral landscape painting attributed to Charles Warren Eaton (New York/New Jersey, 1857-1937) with a flock of sheep led at sunset by a shepherd and his dog. A tree bisects the scene and a wooden fence runs along a hillside at left. Unsigned. Housed in a distressed, modern giltwood frame. Sight: 22″ H x 35″ W. Framed: 29″ H x 42″ W.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Canvas has been lined. With areas of retouching or overpaint, largest to dog’s back left leg, 2″ x 1/2″, and sky to right of tree, 1″ x 1/2″. Possible retouching to sky at left of tree, 7″ x 5″, plus craquelure throughout.
