American School, possibly Southern, late 19th century oil on canvas still life painting depicting a pottery jug filled with small white flowers, positioned atop a marble top table with ogee skirt and reflected in a mirror. Housed in a later giltwood frame with carved corner elements. Canvas is backed with an early 20th piece of cardboard for a Memphis screen door company. Sight: 32" H x 26" W. Framed: 40" H x 34" W.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dorothy Sowell, Columbia, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Canvas needs restretching. Some craquelure to upper half of canvas and some varnish bubbles upper left. 1 1/2" scratch lower right edge. A couple of other minor scattered surface scratches.
