Three (3) East Tennessee Textiles, including two (2) Quilts. 1st item: East Tennessee cotton pieced Double Wedding Ring quilt, constructed of narrow rings of multi-colored prints. Each ring center has a four-lobed floral quilting motif and the outer white border is quilted in an undulating wave design. Quilt is bound with a separate pink binding and has a plain white cotton backing. 83 3/4" x 74 1/4". Circa 1940's. 2nd item: Single bed-sized hand-made Cross-Stitch Kit Quilt named "Williamstown" comprised of a hand pieced white quilted ground with a hand embroiderd red cross stitch pattern with overall hand-stitched quilting. 79" x 89". Circa 1960's. Note: The quilt kit was offered in the 1959-60 Herrschner's catalog in two sizes (single and double) and with three embroidery thread colors (red, blue and brown). The cost in 1960 was about $14 for the pre-stamped top fabric, backing, and thread. 3rd item: East Tennessee "Cathedral Windows" pattern bedcover, comprised of individual blocks that were made separately and then joined to the others by hand. This example is exceptionally large with a myriad of fabric colors and prints from dresses of the 1960s. Quiltmaker has even "fussy-cut" some print pieces to use as centers of some "windows". 59 1/2" x 70". 20th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Bristol, Tennessee collection.
