Chinese ceremonial Manchu dark purple silk ladies robe embroidered with metallic gold and silver threads. Embroidered decoration includes foo dogs, longevity and happiness symbols, peach, pomegranate, phoenix, butterflies, sea waves and the hand of Budhha. Interior is pale blue silk. Qing Dynasty. 41 3/8" H x 55" W. Provenance: Purchased in 2007 from a deaccession sale of the University of Tennessee. Given to the university by Colonel Henry C. Cole who acquired it during his service as a physician in the U.S. Army. Condition: Slight damage to arm/shoulder area, some loose thread on sleeves and discoloration of cream silk.
