Rudolf Jacobi (German/American, 1889-1972) oil on canvas maritime landscape painting depicting a bird's-eye view of a harbor with a large dock house in the foreground flanked by piers and boats with furled sails; additional sailboats and piers scattered across the bay in the midground; and a distant, tree-dotted townscape along the opposite shore at the horizon in the background all beneath a cloud-filled sky. Signed in pencil, en verso of stretcher. Paper label with artist's name, dates, nationality, medium and dimensions, signature indication, frame/framer information, and references to works in which the artist is listed as well as two additional numbered sticker labels affixed, en verso of stretcher. Inscription "Rudolph [sic] Jacobi Westport Conn", en verso of frame. Housed in original cove wooden frame with incised line detailing. Sight: 15 1/2" H x 20 5/8" W. Framed: 23" H x 28" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carl Klein, Brentwood, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with slight surface grime and craquelure. Canvas is lined; minor abrasion to paint layer at lower right edge, measuring approximately 1 3/4" L. Frame with scattered surface wear and areas of errant paint.
