George Peter Alexander Healy (Illinois/Massachusetts/France, 1813-1894) oil on canvas bust length painting of a man in his late middle age, seated, wearing a mid 19th-century style suit with a brown silk cravat, against a brown background. Signed and dated "G.P.A. Healy 1859" lower left. Housed in a giltwood frame with a bead and reel running pattern. Also includes a copy of the catalog for the exhibition "Healy's Sitters" held at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, VA, January 24-March 5, 1950. Sight: 35 1/4" H x 28 1/4" W. Framed: 40" H x 32 3/4" W.
PROVENANCE: Estate of Judge John Nixon, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with craquelure, areas of scattered minute paint flakes/loss, largest 1/8". Canvas has been lined. Frame with minor abrasions, areas of loss. Catalog with front cover separated from spine, toning, creases, light staining, with minor tears and chips to edges of pages.
