Lee Gatch (American, 1902-1968), "The Passing Land," watercolor on paper abstract expressionist painting featuring rudimentary landscape elements contrasted with ambiguous forms and shadows. Signed "Lee Gatch" lower right in pencil and dated 1939. Titled on old exhibition label en verso for the Lee Gatch Retrospective at the American Federation of Arts, 1960-1961 (Cat. #43), with previous owner names and information. Several other labels en verso related to the exhibition and shipping, plus a piece of cardstock adhered en verso, lower center, which reads: "From Lee Gatch, the ___ Patch, Lambertville, NJ." Matted under glass in a narrow silvered frame. Sight -12 1/4" W x 9 1/4" H. Frame – 19" W x 16 1/4" H.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Ronnie Steine, by descent from his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Steine, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Painting overall very good condition. Some light grime to mat and wear to frame. Not examined out of frame.
