Frank Henry Shapleigh (New Hampshire,1842 – 1906) oil on canvas landscape, possibly depicting Lookout Mountain or Missionary Ridge, both located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Signed lower left F. H. Shapleigh, partially obscured. Housed in a carved and partially ebonized wooden frame. Sight: 16 1/2" H x 29 5/8" W. Framed: 24 1/8" H x 37 1/4" W. 2nd half 19th century. Provenance: Descended through an early Chattanooga, TN family. Condition: Some restoration and inpainting, primarily to area near summit, lower left quadrant and area around signature (refer to blacklight photo).
