James Albert Caulfield III (Michigan/Tennessee, 1946 – 2010) grouping of two watercolors and print. 1ST ITEM: Print with gauche and other highlights of Kay's Ice Cream Sign and marquee. Signed in the print and dated 1994. This print was a study for the watercolor for the 2nd item in this lot. 17" H x 12i" W. 2ND ITEM: Watercolor of Kay's Ice Cream sign and marquee, signed lower right. Sight – 19 5/8" H x 14" W. Framed – 26" H x 20 1/4" W. 3RD ITEM: Watercolor of "Freezo – A Taste Thrill" sign. Signed lower right. Sight – 12 5/8" H x 9 3/8" W. 20 1/4" H x 16 1/4" W. Both Kay's Ice Cream and Freezo are indigenous to Knoxville, TN and both signs are Knoxville landmarks. Biography – James Albert Caulfield III was born in Detroit, Michigan and lived most of his early life in East Lansing until moving to Knoxville in 1985. He received formal art training at Michigan State University and Lansing Community College and worked as an illustrator and commercial artist. In both Michigan and Knoxville he chose local and regional subjects focusing on people and places, depicted in a realistic, controlled manner.
