Charlotte Whinston (New York, 1894-1976) oil on canvas cityscape painting, titled "Roof Tops – New York", depicting a small, potted tree twisting towards the sunlight at the edge of a rooftop amid the compact buildings with barrels and a diagonal duct in the midground and the hazy New York City skyline in the background beneath a white-blue sky. Signed and dated "Charlotte Whinston 46" lower right. Inscribed "a tree grows on a roof Charlotte Whinston 3 Columbia Pl Mt V June 1946", en verso of canvas. Additional postcard with artist name, address, and title as well as Youth Fine Arts '91 paper label with artist name and dates, title, dimensions, date, and numbering affixed, en verso of stretcher. Housed and canvas matted in a contemporary wooden frame. Sight: 25 3/8" H x 18 3/8" W. Framed: 31" H x 24" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carl Klein, Brentwood, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Stretched canvas is slightly loose in frame.
