Paint-decorated Italian Baroque style Lacca Povera or Lacca Contraffta secretary bookcase with Chinoiserie inspired pale blue and dark teal decoration of courting couples in Rocaille vignette frames, on an aged yellow background. The diminutive pine case with two part construction including bookcase top with broken arch pediment above two arched doors fitted with brass grillwork panels, enclosing teal blue painted frame; and a bombe form desk base with fall front slanted lid, which opens to a fitted interior, over three long drawers. 82" H x 32 1/2" W x 18 1/2" D. Late 19th/Early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: The piece is in good condition with craquelure and fractures to the painted finish, scattered areas of wear, shrinkage and surface losses, particularly to sides. Water staining to back boards.
