Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifle, .45-70 caliber, with serial number 458471 corresponding to July – September 1889. Markings include: lock with “Eagle” and “U.S. SPRINGFIELD 1873”; breechblock marked “US MODEL 1873”; barrel with “A” top center, “VP” over “Eagle Head” and “P” left; barrel bands marked “U”; butt plate with “US”. Stock with clear acceptance cartouche “SWP 1889” and Circle P proof behind trigger guard. Buckhorn style ramp rear sight marked with “R”. Overall Length 51-3/4 in.; bbl 32-5/8 in.
CONDITION: Even patina overall with slight oxidation to barrel, finish does not appear altered. Action works smoothly. Bore is free of rust showing good lands and grooves. Cleaning rod swivels in place, but difficult to remove.
